Joseph R. Cohen, DDS is founder of Southwest Pain Management Associates. He manages our Orofacial Pain Program. His practice focuses on orofacial pain including atypical tooth pain and headaches, trigeminal neuralgia, and temporomandibular joint disorders. Dr. Cohen is board certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain, one of only three in Central Arizona. He is a member of many professional
organizations including the American Dental Association, American Association for the Study of Headaches, American Pain Society, and the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Orofacial Pain Center at UCLA where he is a course director in the graduate program and assists with clinical instruction and in patient rounds. He is also on staff at University of
Arizona Medical School in the Department of Anesthesia, a clinical instructor at Midwestern University, College of Osteopathy, Arizona Campus and is an Orofacial Pain Consultant for the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. Dr. Cohen is a graduate of the University of Arizona and the University of Tennessee Dental School and has been in private practice in Phoenix since 1971. He has authored many articles and has lectured on Craniomandibular Disorders and Orofacial Pain all over the world. |

Mandeep Vermani, DDS, is a recent graduate of UCLA's Orofacial Pain Program. She focuses in
TMD, atypical tooth pain, trigeminal neuralgia, trigeminal neuropathies and headache. She is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Orofacial Pain and American Headache Society. She is board eligible for certification by the American Board of Orofacial Pain. |

Allan K. Bernstein, DDS

Allan K. Bernstein, D.D.S., focuses his practice on orofacial pain disorders (TMD) and obstructive sleep apnea and snoring. He has been in practice in AZ since 1978. He received his general dentistry training at McGill University in Montreal, Canada, completed his dental internship at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and has continued to expand and refine his clinical expertise through ongoing training and professional involvement in temporomandibular disorders, and appliances for obstructive sleep apnea and snoring.
For a number of years, Dr. Bernstein has been an invited speaker at conferences both locally and in other cities in the United States. Dr. Bernstein is board certified by the American Board of Orofacial Pain (one of three in Central Arizona). He is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Pain Management, a member of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain, the American Headache Society, and the American Pain Society.
During the past 18 years, Dr. Bernstein has expanded his practice to include the treatment of mild to moderate sleep apnea and snoring with oral appliances. He is presently the only dentist in Arizona credentialed by the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine as well as a past member of the Academy's Board of Directors, and a member of the American Academy of Sleep medicine. He has co-authored several articles on TMD, and co-authored "The Effects of Mandibular Repositioning on Obstructive Sleep Apnea" published in The Journal of Craniomandibular Practice, April 1988, VOL. 6, NO.2.
Dr. Bernstein resides with his wife in Paradise Valley, AZ, and especially enjoys golfing, tennis, and travel. The Bernstein's are proud of their three grown daughters who are professionals in the fields of law, medicine, and education. |

Michael W. Loes, MD

Michael W. Loes, MD manages the internal medicine and pharmacological needs of the chronic pain patient. Comprehensive pain evaluation/treatment requires knowledge of the patient's other health problems. A patient may already be on multiple drugs and any adjustments must be carefully designed.
Sometimes patients come in for pain management who have experienced problems with drug dependence or addiction. A carefully monitored program may need to be established. Dr. Loes is certified in Internal Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Pain Medicine, Pain Management and Acupuncture. His area of expertise is in the pharmacological management of pain. As an internist/addictionologist, he monitors and adjusts edications when necessary and assists in the management of those with complex pain problems. |

Robin Bedingfield, DPT

Our physical therapy program is managed by Robin Bedingfield, DPT. Her practice focuses on management of chronic and complicated pain with physical therapy approaches that respect the patients' pain levels. Interventions focus on patient education and self-management techniques, home exercise programs, and extensive use of gentle hands-on techniques to restore proper movement patterns and reduce
pain. The patient's functional goals are defined and incorporated into a mutually agreed upon treatment plan that strives to reduce pain, restore functional movement, and prevent further impairment and disability. Dr. Bedingfield received her Doctor of Physical Therapy and Master of Science in Physical Therapy degrees from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine allied health programs in the Phoenix area, and
is also certified as a personal trainer. |

Sandy Gallo, NP, specializes in pain management, and has an extensive background in headache medicine and woman's health issues. As a certified nurse practitioner with a masters degree in Science and Nursing, she can order diagnostic testing and prescribe medication and physical therapy |

Judith B. Dolan, MS, CPC, CRNA

Judy Dolan provides counseling for pain management and the problems associated with pain as well as stress reduction. She has a Master's Degree in Clinical Counseling from the University of Southern Maine. She is also a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, inactive. Ms. Dolan utilizes a Cognitive/Behavioral
approach to therapy to encourage patients to change their perspective of pain and improve functioning skills. She is a Certified Professional Counselor in Arizona and is a Licensed Clinical Counselor in Maine. |

Ivy Segal
Office Manager |
Ivy has worked with Dr Cohen and Southwest Pain Management since 1986. She is married with two children and one granddaughter. Ivy received her undergraduate degree at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York and her Masters in Reading from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma. She was an elementary teacher before switching professions to the medical/dental field in 1981. Ivy also received her MBA in health Care Management from the University of Phoenix in 2001. |
