Common movement disorders seen by our office include:
 
1. SLEEP ASSOCIATED ORAL MOTOR DISORDERS
  • Bruxism: Grinding the teeth at night
  • Apnea: Stopping breathing at night ore than five times an hour.
  • Sleep Dyskinesias
2. WAKING STATE, CONTINUOUS ORAL MOTOR DISORDERS
  • Palatal Myoclonus
  • Bells Palsy
  • Dyskinisia
    1. i.  Tardive
      ii.  Spontaneous
  • Resting Tremor: Continuous movement of facial muscles when face is at rest.
  • Contracture: Similar to lockjaw
  • Hypertrophy: Enlarged muscles.
  • Lockjaw: Jaw is locked closed by muscle spasm.
3. WAKING STATE, INTERMITTENT-SPONTANEOUS ORAL MOTOR DISORDERS
  • Focal Dystonias
    1. i.  Oromandibular Dysonia
      ii.  Facial Tics
      iii. Blepharospasm
      iv. Torticollis
  • Tourette”s Syndrome: A tic disorder appearing in childhood, characterized bymultiple motor tics and vocal tics present for longer than one year.
  • Hemifacial Spasm: Muscle contraction on one side of the face than is painful and irregular.
4. WAKING STATE, INTERMITTENT-INDUCED –INVOLUNTARY ORAL MOTOR DISORDERS
  • Trismus
  • Movement induced Tremor
  • Dysphagia: Difficulty in swallowing due to muscle contraction
  • Dysphonia: Difficulty in talking due to muscle contraction
  • Dysarthria: Similar to Dysphonia
5. WAKING STATE, INTERMISSTEN-INDUCED-VOLUNTARY ORAL MOTOR DISORDERS
  • Tension Tye Headashe Disorders
  • Myofascial Pain Disorder
  • Oral Habits: Clenching, Lip Biting, Gum Chewing, Tooth Tapping
